R&D Manager

Job Description:

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from ideation to commercialization, ensuring alignment with business objectives
  • Manage and mentor the R&D team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
  • Work closely with marketing, procurement, quality assurance, and production teams to ensure cohesive product development and launch
  • Conduct thorough market research to identify emerging trends, customer needs, and potential product opportunities
  • Collaborate with external consultants to develop and refine product formulations, ensuring quality and compliance with health and safety standards
  • Evaluate and enhance existing products and processes to improve quality, reduce costs, and meet changing consumer demands
  • Ensure all products comply with relevant industry regulations and standards, including FDA and HACCP guidelines
  • Oversee project budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and adherence to financial targets
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all R&D activities, including project plans, formulations, testing results, and regulatory documents
  • Engage with suppliers to source new ingredients and materials that support innovative product development
  • Implement and monitor testing procedures to assess raw materials, in-process, and finished products, ensuring consistency and quality
  • Identify potential risks in product development and implement strategies to mitigate them

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in R&D within the FMCG sector, with at least 3 years in a managerial role overseeing product development
  • In-depth knowledge of food technology, including bakery, confectionery, or snack foods, and familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) systems
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on data-driven decision-making
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex ideas to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing high-performing teams
  • Understanding of product costing, pricing strategies, and budget management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with project management software and SharePoint is preferred
