Market Expansion Technical Lead

Job Description:

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the Agriculture and Food Systems Development Activity strategy for expanding market access for the activity’s target beneficiaries; and the development of workplans and periodic written program reports in the area of expansion of market access
  • Provide leadership in identifying inclusive market development opportunities, understanding evolving market trends, conducting targeted research on new/potential market channels, business models, or partnerships. Identify constraints, market-based solutions, and incentives to integrate small-scale producers into efficient market systems
  • Lead the identification of strategic end-market partners such as post-harvest firms, exporters/traders and international buyers; and work closely with the rest of the technical team in the development of partnerships with these end-markets. Manage the implementation of partnership agreements with end-markets
  • Collaborates internally and externally to synthesize, share, and apply learning methods for market systems change. Active engagement in collaboration, learning, and adaptation (CLA) is expected of all staff, in accordance with the organization’s commitment to CLA and its importance to achieving this project’s goals
  • Support the MEL Director to plan the collection, analysis, and reporting of relevant data, including reporting on all sex- and age-disaggregated data
  • Represent the program at relevant conferences, stakeholder, and donor meetings as appropriate
  • Directly supervise Market Expansion/Linkages Specialists assigned to his/her team; and work closely with the Deputy Chief of Party in providing technical supervision to Market System Development Officers assigned in Field Offices of the Agriculture and Food System Development Activity

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications And Skills

  • Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in economics, business administration, agricultural sciences, agribusiness management, marketing, international relations or another relevant field required
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with successful agricultural value chain and/or market systems development projects with management responsibility
  • In-depth knowledge of agriculture sector and main actors in a variety of agricultural value chains in Myanmar
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and experience in managing teams
  • Proven experience in integrating women’s empowerment and organizational performance strengthening interventions
  • Must be politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy to build and maintain effective working relationships in ethnically sensitive environment
  • Proven ability to interact clearly and effectively with donors and other organizations
  • Demonstrated strong writing and oral presentation skills in English and fluency in Burmese required
